Cosmo Jarvis Joins Shogun Season 2, Set Post-Decade

by Brooklyn Nov 16,2025

The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, recipient of an impressive 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is officially returning for Season 2 - with production plans already in motion. FX confirmed through an official announcement that Cosmo Jarvis will reprise his role as English pilot John Blackthorne while also stepping up as co-executive producer.

Hiroyuki Sanada, the show's lead actor who committed to Season 2 following last May's renewal announcement, has been promoted to executive producer after serving as producer during the initial season. Filming for the new season will commence in January 2026, returning to the original Vancouver shooting locations.

FX describes Season 2 as "an entirely new original chapter" building upon the first season's adaptation of James Clavell's bestselling novel. The network elaborated on how both seasons interconnect:

"Season 1 followed Lord Yoshii Toranaga's (Sanada) survival struggle against united adversaries in the Council of Regents. The discovery of a stranded European vessel and its English navigator John Blackthorne (Jarvis) provided Toranaga with strategic advantages that shifted the balance in his favor during Japan's historic civil war.

"Shōgun's continuation picks up a decade later, further exploring the intertwined destinies of these two men from vastly different worlds through this historically-grounded narrative."

With any luck, audiences can expect new episodes of this exceptional drama by late 2026 - though for now, anticipation will have to suffice.
