Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes

Deadlock's latest update brings a fresh look to their gameplay by reducing their map from four lanes to three. This shift aims to simplify the map structure and enhance other game features. On February 26, 2025, Valve shared the full details of this map rework and other mechanical adjustments on Steam.

The redesign encompasses a wide array of changes, including visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, and the mid boss. Deadlock, known for its unique third-person MOBA approach, is now adjusting from a four-lane to a more traditional three-lane setup, which may streamline gameplay.

In addition to the map changes, the update introduces new farming mechanics where players no longer need to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, making early laning phases more accessible. The patch notes also mention enhancements to the game’s netcode and client performance.

Vital Update for Deadlock

This update could be the catalyst needed to reignite interest among Deadlock's community. The game experienced a significant surge in active players, hitting an all-time high of 171,490 in September 2024. However, player numbers have since dropped by 90%, with around 17,000 players active this past month.

Valve Developer Yoshi addressed the community on Deadlock’s Discord server in January 2025, explaining the shift in their update schedule. He noted, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."

Deadlock remains in active development and playtesting, accessible only through friend invites. No official release date has been announced yet. For more updates and information on Deadlock, be sure to visit our dedicated Deadlock page.
