One of the initial challenges you'll encounter in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* is the battle against Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turbans. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to conquer this formidable foe.
The first phase pits you against Zhang Jiao in a one-on-one duel in a vast wasteland. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery to hurl stones across the arena. When you're close, he'll summon four stones, necessitating quick evasive maneuvers. At a distance, he'll double the number of stones, sending them in sets of two, which you can dodge by circling him. If you're near him during his stone summoning, create some distance to avoid being pummeled by the barrage.
While most of his attacks are designed to keep you at bay, he also has close-range options. He performs simple combos that you can parry, and an AOE attack intended to push you back. When you see him glow white, he's charging for the AOE, so retreat immediately to avoid damage.
As the fight progresses, Zhang Jiao will unleash moves accompanied by a red aura, indicating uncancellable attacks. These include summoning a deluge of rocks and creating multiple clones. The best strategy here is to back off and wait out these attacks before resuming your offensive. Ensure you're using a sword, as it deals significant damage compared to spears or gauntlets.
It's crucial to monitor your health throughout the battle. You'll likely have four healing opportunities, depending on your upgraded skills. Remember, there are jars near the arena entrance containing meat buns, perfect for healing. When retreating from Zhang Jiao's onslaught, grab some buns to replenish your health.
Upon unlocking Musou Rage, the second phase kicks off with the Yellow Turbans joining Zhang Jiao. Fortunately, your own army will also arrive, providing you with some respite. This is an ideal time to heal by dashing to the entrance for those meat buns. Zhang Jiao will now summon tornadoes to disrupt your movements, so stay vigilant amidst the chaos of combat.
After thinning out his troops, Zhang Jiao will initiate his Grand Tactic, requiring you to eliminate 300 soldiers within a tight timeframe to prevent a devastating attack. To complicate matters, he'll call down lightning strikes across the arena. Keep an eye on the ground for closing rings and dodge when they flash. The most effective way to meet the soldier quota is by utilizing Musou Mode, which, when timed correctly, can dispatch dozens at once. While Musou Rage Mode is available, sticking to the basic Musou Mode is advisable given the time constraints.
After thwarting Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic twice, he'll re-enter the fray with tactics reminiscent of Phase 1. With your army's support, you should find it easier to deplete his remaining health, concluding Chapter 1.
That's your strategy to defeat Zhang Jiao in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*. The game is now available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, so gear up and dive into the action!
