Dr Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Game

by Oliver Apr 08,2025

Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three years of operation. The studio, which also included industry veterans like Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo from the Call of Duty and Halo franchises, has decided to shut down and cancel its anticipated FPS game, Deadrop.

In a post on X, Midnight Society shared the news, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The studio also reached out to the gaming community, asking if any other studios are hiring and could offer employment opportunities to its team members.

Deadrop was envisioned as a free-to-play FPS set in a fictional universe where "the 80s never ended." The game's aesthetic featured characters with Daft Punk-like helmets, wielding a mix of guns and swords. It was designed to be a PvPvE style extraction shooter and was targeting a 2024 release, which it ultimately missed.

The studio parted ways with Beahm in 2024 following revelations that he had exchanged messages with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature, some of which were deemed inappropriate. Despite this split, Midnight Society continued to work on Deadrop until the decision to close was made this year.

Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of studios facing difficulties in the current challenging climate of the gaming industry, which has also affected companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many others.
