TouchArcade Rating:
Last year, Square Enix's Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince charmed its way onto the Switch, earning high praise despite some technical hiccups. Its engaging gameplay loop and undeniable charm easily surpassed other Dragon Quest spin-offs on the platform, rivaling the excellent Dragon Quest Builders 2. While a PC port was anticipated, a mobile release came as a pleasant surprise. Today, Square Enix announced that the Switch-exclusive Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince ($23.99) is launching on iOS, Android, and Steam on September 11th, complete with all previously released DLC, including the Digital Deluxe Edition content. Watch the trailer below:
Comparison images showcasing the game's appearance on mobile, Switch, and Steam are available on the official Japanese website. Here's one example:
Importantly, the store pages clarify that the online real-time battle mode from the Switch version will be absent in the Steam and mobile releases.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is currently available on Nintendo Switch, priced at $59.99 (standard) and $84.99 (Digital Deluxe Edition). Having thoroughly enjoyed the Switch version, I eagerly anticipate reviewing it on iPhone, iPad, and Steam Deck upon its September 11th launch. This swift mobile port is a welcome change from the typical delays seen in the Dragon Quest series (e.g., Dragon Quest Builders). The mobile price is set at $29.99, while the Steam version will cost $39.99. Pre-register on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android) now! Have you played Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince on Switch? Will you be trying it on mobile or Steam?
