EA's Disinterest in Dead Space 4: A Creator's Perspective
Glen Schofield, creator of the Dead Space franchise, recently revealed in an interview with Dan Allen Gaming that EA showed little interest in developing a fourth installment. This revelation sheds light on the current status of the acclaimed sci-fi horror series.
The possibility of a Dead Space 4 remains uncertain, potentially indefinitely delayed or cancelled altogether. During the interview, Schofield, along with fellow developers Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, confirmed EA's rejection of their proposal for a new entry. The discussion arose when Stone recounted his son's enthusiasm for the game and the subsequent disappointment in not being able to announce a sequel.
The team attempted to pitch Dead Space 4 to EA earlier this year, but their proposal was swiftly dismissed. Schofield explained that EA's response was concise and non-committal, indicating a lack of current interest. Stone highlighted the current industry climate, noting a prevailing reluctance to take risks on established franchises, particularly those dormant for a considerable period.
Despite the success of the recent Dead Space remake (scoring an 89 on Metacritic and "Very Positive" on Steam), EA's apparent risk aversion may be the deciding factor. Schofield emphasized EA's focus on data-driven decisions regarding development.
However, the developers remain hopeful about the future of Dead Space 4. They expressed their continued enthusiasm for the project and willingness to return to it given the opportunity. While currently working on separate projects in different studios, their shared ambition for a new Dead Space game persists. The possibility of a future revival remains a strong possibility.
