Sega has delivered surprising news to fans of the niche yet beloved Football Manager series: there will be no new installment for the 2025 season. In an official statement, Sega and Sports Interactive announced the cancellation of the game and confirmed that all preorders would be refunded.
What led to this decision? The announcement revealed that the game, which had already faced two delays, was simply too unfinished to release. The developers had promised a significant technological advancement in the new installment, but it seems they were unable to deliver on this vision at this time. This level of transparency is commendable, especially when compared to other sports simulators that sometimes release with minimal changes (we're looking at you, NBA 2K!).
Despite the honesty, the news remains disappointing for fans. The developers also confirmed that Football Manager 24 will not receive updates for the new season's data. This is a significant setback for players, especially given the series' history of players landing real-life football club jobs based on their in-game achievements. For the next year, fans will have to make do with an outdated version of the game.
Now, all that remains is to wait for future announcements from Sega and Sports Interactive. Fans of the Football Manager series will be eagerly anticipating any updates on the future of this beloved franchise.
