The Developers of No Law Know Everyone Will Compare It to Cyberpunk 2077, but There Are Important Differences

by Emily Apr 28,2026

Fresh from its debut at The Game Awards 2025, the first-person open-world shooter RPG No Law is already drawing comparisons to CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077. The developer, Neon Giant, anticipated these parallels but wants to highlight key distinctions.

No Law is the next title from the studio behind The Ascent, the acclaimed cyberpunk twin-stick shooter released in 2021. This time, Neon Giant shifts not only the camera perspective but also the tone, embracing a more grounded cyberpunk aesthetic centered on a single city. The debut trailer strongly evokes the feel of Cyberpunk 2077.

In an interview with IGN ahead of the announcement, co-founders and co-creative directors Tor Frick and Arcade Berg explained why Neon Giant chose to develop an entirely new game instead of pursuing a sequel to The Ascent—or even a first-person version of it. They discussed everything from the city’s atmosphere and combat mechanics to the consequences of dialogue choices and the satisfying kick attack.
