Following significant player backlash, Fortnite has reinstated the unlockable Matte Black style for the Master Chief skin. Epic Games reversed its initial decision to remove the style, ensuring players can still obtain it.
The return of the Master Chief skin, initially released in 2020, was met with excitement. However, the December 23rd announcement that the Matte Black style was no longer unlockable sparked considerable controversy. This contradicted earlier statements guaranteeing its availability to anyone owning the skin and playing on Xbox Series X/S. Epic Games swiftly corrected this, confirming the Matte Black style remains unlockable as originally promised.
This reversal follows recent FTC-mandated refunds to Fortnite players for deceptive practices. The community's negative reaction to the initial removal of the Matte Black style, affecting both new and existing owners, fueled concerns about similar issues.
The Master Chief skin's return isn't the only recent controversy. The reintroduction of the Renegade Raider skin also divided the player base, with some veteran players threatening to abandon the game. Currently, some players are advocating for an original (OG) style for those who purchased the Master Chief skin at launch, though Epic Games' response to this request remains uncertain. While the Matte Black style issue has been resolved, the demand for an OG style is unlikely to be fulfilled.
