The prop hunt genre has seen a surge in popularity recently, and the latest addition, Where's Potato? by developer gamesbynav, aims to capitalize on this trend. Available now on Android, this game brings a unique twist to the classic hide-and-seek style gameplay.
In Where's Potato?, players can take on the role of either the potato or the seekers. The objective for the potato is to hide within a typical suburban home, blending into the environment to avoid detection. However, the potato isn't entirely defenseless; by consuming hot chili peppers, it gains the ability to attack and burn seekers. Successfully burning three seekers results in a win for the potato.
Visually, Where's Potato? may not be groundbreaking, presenting a straightforward 3D environment. Yet, considering it's a solo project from a relatively new developer, it's a commendable effort. The game's design, while not world-beating, is functional and serves its purpose well.
One potential challenge for Where's Potato? is standing out in the crowded prop hunt genre. This genre thrives primarily on social gaming platforms like Minecraft or as a sub-mode in other games. It's uncertain whether Where's Potato? can sustain itself as a standalone download.
Despite this, the game showcases the developer's ability to create a functional multiplayer experience, which is no small feat, even for more seasoned developers. As such, I'll be keeping an eye on gamesbynav to see what innovative projects they might release next.
