Some video games are designed to get your heart racing and your blood pressure soaring, and that's what makes them thrilling. Others, however, are crafted to slow your pulse and guide you into a state of meditative calm, and these games are equally fantastic. Frike, the debut Android game from indie developer chakahacka, uniquely blends both experiences into one captivating package.
The objective in Frike is straightforward: survive as long as possible. You control a floating triangle segmented into purple, orange, and green. Using two virtual buttons on the left side of the screen, you can ascend or descend, while a button on the right allows you to rotate your triangular avatar.
Despite having only one level, Frike is far from a small game. This level is infinite, ensuring you'll never reach an end. Scattered throughout its moody, abstract world are blocks in various colors: white, purple, orange, and green. To score points, you must rotate your triangle so its corners align with matching colored squares.
Colliding with too many mismatched or white squares will cause your triangle to explode. However, some squares offer bonus effects, slowing you down and giving you more time to align with the next square.
Frike exemplifies a minimalist arcade casual game. If you're chasing a high score, it can be intense, but if you're looking to relax, you can simply navigate around obstacles and soak in the ambiance. Accompanying the game's understated visuals is a meditative soundtrack featuring echoey chimes and metallic tinkles.
If this sounds appealing to you, you can download Frike for free right now from the Google Play Store.
