The renowned Spanish studio MercurySteam, acclaimed for their work on titles like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread, has announced an exciting new project: an action-RPG called Blades of Fire. Developed in partnership with publisher 505 Games, the game invites players into a richly detailed dark fantasy world teeming with mysterious races and terrifying creatures.
The initial trailer for Blades of Fire showcases thrilling, fast-paced hack-and-slash combat, a distinctive visual style, and a deeply atmospheric setting. In terms of gameplay and artistic design, Blades of Fire echoes the feel of Lords of Shadow, while its environment and enemy designs draw clear inspiration from Darksiders. A particularly intriguing element introduced in the trailer is a mechanical bird, suggesting a unique method for the protagonist to navigate the expansive game world.
Blades of Fire is being crafted using MercurySteam's proprietary Mercury Engine. This choice of engine is noteworthy as it may circumvent the optimization challenges that plague many modern games developed on Unreal Engine 5, potentially offering a smoother and more stable gaming experience.
Mark your calendars: Blades of Fire is set to launch on May 22, 2025. The game will be available on the latest generation consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, as well as on PC through the Epic Games Store.
