In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, while pursuing the elusive dragon, you'll encounter a fierce battle between Rey Dau and your group. This enraged lightning dragon now has its sights set on you, making for an intense confrontation.
Known Habitats: Windward Plains
Breakable Parts: Horns, Wings, and Tail
Recommended Elemental Attack: Ice and Water
Effective Status Effects: Poison (2x), Sleep (2x), Paralysis (1x), Blastblight (2x), Stun (1x), Exhaust (2x)
Effective Items: Pitfall Trap, Flash Pod, Dung Pod
Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. With its lightning element, it's immune to lightning-based attacks. However, it's highly susceptible to water and ice. Targeting its head, which has a 4-star weakness, is your best bet for dealing significant damage. Alternatively, the wings, with a 3-star weakness, are another viable target.
Avoid attacking its sturdy torso. If hitting the head proves challenging, focus on the tail instead. The legs are well-protected, so targeting them isn't advisable. For status ailments, all are effective except Stun and Paralysis, given its lightning element.
A strategic approach to defeating Rey Dau quickly is by using a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, allowing you to land crucial hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its horn to maximize damage. Remember to activate Focus Mode to spot the glowing red horns.
Surviving Rey Dau's onslaught can be tough. Equip gear like the Hope Armor set, which features the Divine Blessing skill to mitigate damage. It also offers resistance against Lightning and Fire, perfect for this fight. Consider consuming a meal that enhances your elemental resistance as well.
If dodging proves difficult, position yourself near Rey Dau's legs. The dragon primarily attacks areas in front of and behind it, leaving your position relatively safe.
Rey Dau often relocates during combat. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps on the lone tree to briefly stun the monster. Be cautious when it returns to its nest, as it employs a follow-up lightning attack that can stun you. Take your time to avoid getting zapped.

Capturing Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds offers additional rewards. Reduce the dragon's health until it's nearly dead, indicated by a skull icon near its mini-map icon. Lay down a trap at this point.
Given Rey Dau's lightning nature, Shock Traps won't work. Opt for a Pitfall Trap instead, followed by a Tranquilizer to secure the capture. Act swiftly as you only have a few seconds to execute this maneuver.
