Hyper Light Breaker boasts a variety of resources, but Golden Rations stand out as the rarest and most crucial for significant upgrades. Unfortunately, the game offers little guidance on acquiring these vital materials. This guide clarifies how to reliably obtain Golden Rations.
Currently, two primary methods exist for acquiring Golden Rations: exploration and cycle resets. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often contain resources for upgrades or purchases, and sometimes, they hold the coveted Golden Rations. A Golden Ration icon above a chest indicates its presence.
Areas containing Prisms (marked by a golden diamond icon) frequently have nearby chests containing Golden Rations.
Alternatively, strategically utilize cycle resets. A cycle represents a single Overgrowth instance, resetting when your revives (Rez count) reach zero. Upon depleting your revives, you can choose to retry the map (at a resource cost) or completely reset the cycle at the Cursed Outpost. Successful cycle resets yield a score; high scores result in Golden Ration rewards.
Golden Rations are essential for progression in Hyper Light Breaker. Primarily, they unlock permanent upgrades at your home base, enhancing your character or granting new vendor services.
Furthermore, Golden Rations unlock Sycoms—items defining your Breaker's stats and passive abilities, significantly impacting their playstyle.
Upon earning your first Golden Ration, prioritize the extra medkit upgrade from Pherus Bit. This significantly aids survivability, mitigating the game's harsh penalty for combat errors.
Remember, while death results in lost weapons, amps, and perks (suffering one pip of damage, potentially destroying them), any collected resources, including Golden Rations, are retained.
