Hyper Light Breaker, the 3D rogue-lite successor to Hyper Light Drifter, introduces a key new feature: multiplayer. This guide details how to play cooperatively with friends and how to utilize the random matchmaking system.

Playing with Friends in Hyper Light Breaker

To play co-op with friends, you'll need to create a private multiplayer room. In the Cursed Outpost hub, interact with the counter to the left of Pherus Bit.

Select "Create Breaker Team" from the Multiplayer menu. Enable "Password Required" and set a password. Invite up to two friends via your platform's social features (PSN, Xbox, and Steam are supported). The game supports three-player teams.

Friends can join via the invitation or, if they're already in-game, by searching for your team in the "Join Breaker Team" menu. Remember to share the password with them.

Random Online Matchmaking

For solo players, Hyper Light Breaker offers public groups. To join a random team:

1. Access the Multiplayer menu in the Cursed Outpost.
2. Select "Join Breaker Team."
3. Choose "Join Random Public Breaker Team" at the bottom of the menu.

The game will find an available public team and place you in their session.

To leave a multiplayer session, return to the Multiplayer menu in the Cursed Outpost and select the "Disconnect" option (this appears only when in a session). Alternatively, simply quit the game.
