Lionsgate announced at CinemaCon that Keanu Reeves will reprise his iconic role in an anime prequel film, concurrent with his return for John Wick 5. This animated adaptation will explore the mythic "Impossible Task" that established Wick's feared reputation throughout the Continental underworld.
The feature-length anime will chronicle young John Wick's brutal completion of the High Table's ultimate challenge: eliminating all rival assassins in a single night to win his freedom and reunite with his beloved Helen. Maintaining the franchise's signature hyper-stylized action, the project targets mature audiences.
Original producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Chad Stahelski, and Reeves reunite for this venture, joined by animation director Shannon Tindle (Ultraman: Rising) and screenwriter Vanessa Taylor (The Shape of Water). Stahelski notes anime's natural affinity for expanding Wick's cinematic universe through exaggerated yet grounded action choreography.
