Since its launch in September 2024, *Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2* has been bolstered by robust post-launch support, especially for its online multiplayer modes. If you're eager to experience the latest content updates firsthand, here's your guide to joining the *Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2* public test server.
It's important to note that while *Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2* is available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the public test server is exclusively accessible on PC. PC players can easily access the public test server through Steam. Simply navigate to your Steam library, find *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2*, and you'll see the public test server listed directly below the main game as a separate title. Remember, you must own a copy of *Space Marine 2* on Steam to access the test server. Once located, download and install the public test server, which will have its own standalone files separate from the main game.
The *Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2* public test server offers a range of new content for both PvE and PvP game modes, including new and modified weapons and customization options. The majority of updates are focused on PvE, featuring a new map, relaxed class restrictions on weapons, and enhancements to online gameplay features. Keep in mind that the content, particularly the new PvE additions, is still in development and may see significant changes before its official release.
The public test server also introduces improved matchmaking for both PvE and PvP modes, focusing on better team balancing. The PvE system aims to minimize instances where players of the same class end up on the same team, and includes a prestige leveling system. Meanwhile, the PvP mode enhances lobby customization to enrich the online multiplayer experience.
For PC players with mods installed for *Space Marine 2*, these will not work on the public test server. While you're free to create and customize content using the available assets on the test server, this content won't be saved to the main game due to the test server being a separate build. There's no official confirmation on whether progression or content from the test server will transfer to the main game, but it's not expected.
