Nintendo's incredible journey, spanning over a century, will soon be on full display at its brand-new museum in Kyoto. Shigeru Miyamoto's recent YouTube tour showcased the museum's extensive collection of memorabilia and iconic products, offering a captivating look at the evolution of one of the world's most beloved video game companies.
Built on the site of Nintendo's original factory—where Hanafuda playing cards were first produced in 1889—this modern two-story museum offers a comprehensive retrospective. Visitors are greeted by a vibrant Mario-themed plaza before embarking on a journey through Nintendo's rich history.
Miyamoto's tour highlights Nintendo's diverse product range, showcasing everything from early board games, dominoes, and chess sets to RC cars and the groundbreaking Color TV-Game consoles of the 1970s. The museum also features a surprising array of items, including a baby stroller called "Mamaberica," demonstrating the breadth of Nintendo's early ventures.
A dedicated exhibit focuses on the Famicom and NES systems, pivotal moments in Nintendo's history, showcasing classic games and peripherals from around the globe. The evolution of beloved franchises like Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda is also meticulously documented.
The museum also boasts a large interactive area with giant screens, allowing visitors to play classic titles like the Super Mario Bros. arcade game using their smart devices. From humble beginnings crafting playing cards to becoming a global gaming powerhouse, the Nintendo Museum promises a fun and engaging experience for all, opening its doors on October 2nd.
