Get ready for an exhilarating new adventure with *Mario Kart World*, set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. This isn't just another Mario Kart game; it's an expansive open-world racing experience that lets you dive into the vast landscapes of the Mushroom Kingdom. Whether you're racing through iconic regions or exploring them at your own pace, *Mario Kart World* offers a plethora of characters and vehicles to choose from. Preorders are now open at various retailers, so let’s dive into what you need to know.
Out June 5
Unlike many video games these days, Mario Kart World comes in just one edition. You can grab it for $79.99 or opt for the bundle with the Nintendo Switch 2 for $499.99.
Opting for the Switch 2 bundle with Super Mario Kart World saves you $30 compared to buying them separately. Keep in mind, though, that the bundle includes a digital copy of the game, so if you prefer a physical copy, you might want to spend the extra $30 for the standalone version.
When purchased separately, Mario Kart World costs $79.99, which is $10 more than the standard price of AAA PlayStation and Xbox games this generation. While it's disheartening to see game prices rise between generations, it's understandable given the increased costs of game development. I'm hopeful that the expansive nature of Mario Kart World justifies this price increase.
Mario Kart World is set to be the most ambitious Mario Kart game to date, featuring an open-world design similar to the Forza Horizon series. In Grand Prix mode, you can seamlessly transition from one race to the next across the expansive world. The tracks are dynamic, affected by weather and time of day, which can influence visibility and traction. You're not confined to the tracks either; you can explore virtually everywhere in the Mushroom Kingdom.
A new mode, Knockout Tour, challenges you to race across the open world, hitting checkpoints with specific placement requirements. Fall behind, and you’re out. For a more relaxed experience, Free Roam mode lets you cruise around with friends, capturing moments as you go.
Stay tuned for more details during the Nintendo Direct on April 17. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview for a deeper look into Mario Kart World.
