Mario vs. Sonic: Unofficial cinematic crossover trailer unveiled

The trailer pits the iconic duo against each other, replacing the whimsical Mushroom Kingdom with Sonic's high-octane world. It's a vibrant showcase of what a crossover film could offer.

This concept was sparked by the phenomenal success of the Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog movie adaptations, which collectively raked in over $2 billion worldwide.

Despite the historical rivalry between Nintendo and Sega, making a true collaboration unlikely, the idea of uniting these beloved characters clearly resonates deeply with audiences.

For now, fans can anticipate sequels: Super Mario Bros. at the Movies 2 (2026) and Sonic 4 at the Movies (2027).

Meanwhile, a different kind of partnership unfolded in December: McDonald's, Sega, and Paramount joined forces. A Sonic Happy Meal promotion, featuring toys from Sonic the Hedgehog 3, launched in the US after a successful Colombian rollout. The Colombian campaign featured twelve unique hedgehog toys, initially not slated for a US release, but ultimately making their way to American McDonald's locations. Each Happy Meal includes a Sonic toy, a side, a drink, and a choice of McNuggets or a burger.
