Marvel Rivals Developer Considers Nintendo Switch 2 Release

by Victoria Apr 07,2025

The widely popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals is experiencing tremendous success on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has been clear that it will not be coming to the current Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans. But there's hope on the horizon with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

During the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the possibility of a Switch 2 release. The news is promising for Switch enthusiasts, as Wu indicated that a release on the new console is indeed a possibility.

Wu explained, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch was that the first generation of that device couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."

The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, and while details on its capabilities are still sparse, it's expected to be a more powerful version of the current Switch. One intriguing feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, making it more akin to a PC gaming experience. However, the exact implementation of this feature remains to be seen.

Currently, the Nintendo Switch 2 does not have a confirmed release date, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, which may provide more information. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is available on other platforms and has received high praise. In our 8/10 review, we noted that "it may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the game on February 21.
