Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative feedback generated by Dev Talk 10, which detailed a plan to reset player ranks by four divisions midway through the season.
The initial plan, proposing rank resets every 45 days, was met with criticism from players who felt it was demotivating. In a significant turnaround, Marvel Rivals confirmed that no mid-season rank reset will occur. Players will retain their current ranks and scores from the first half of the season. End-of-season resets, however, will still result in a six-division drop.
Despite the rank reset reversal, other planned updates remain on track. The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still scheduled for release. NetEase Games continues its commitment to introducing two new playable characters per three-month season.
Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above also remain unchanged. Players achieving Gold rank will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor (for Grandmaster and above), will be awarded at the season's end. Balance adjustments are also planned, though specifics are yet to be revealed.
The rapid response to player concerns highlights Marvel Rivals' commitment to community feedback. The developer acknowledged the immediate and strong reaction to the initial announcement, emphasizing their dedication to creating a positive player experience. The statement emphasized the importance of community input and their ongoing commitment to improving the game.
The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for further updates on our Marvel Rivals page.
