Marvel Comics Announces New Star Wars Series Launching May 2025
Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars comic book series in May 2025, picking up after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. The series will follow Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Written by Alex Segura (Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku), the series will be illustrated by veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron), with Noto and Leinil Yu providing cover art for the first issue.
The story unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, focusing on the New Republic's efforts to solidify its power. However, the heroes will face new challenges from opportunistic criminals and emerging threats exploiting the power vacuum.
"With the Battle of Jakku concluding the Galactic Civil War, we're launching into a fresh, unexplored era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "This will feature new galactic threats, enemies, and mysteries for our heroes to confront, blending familiar elements with exciting new surprises. The stories will be action-packed, with character moments that Star Wars fans expect, offering unique twists on the galaxy while ensuring accessibility for new readers."
Noto added, "Alex has crafted incredible storylines and characters, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life. It's exciting to depict the classic characters in this post-Return of the Jedi era, creating new visual interpretations without the constraints of existing film or TV versions. I can develop fresh looks while still referencing the actors from the 1980s to maintain the feel of the timeline."
Star Wars #1 will debut on May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi project. In February 2025, they will release Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
