Mask Around, the highly anticipated sequel to 2020's quirky roguelike platformer Mask Up, is finally here! Prepare for a thrilling blend of run-and-gun action and visceral brawling. The iconic yellow ooze returns, but with some surprising new twists on the familiar formula.
For those unfamiliar with the original, Mask Up was a unique experience—a 2D roguelike where you evolved from a humble puddle of yellow goo into a powerful, gooey force. Developer Rouli has once again delivered a dose of delightful weirdness with Mask Around.
Unlike its predecessor, which focused primarily on 2D brawling, Mask Around introduces exciting 2D shooting mechanics. You'll seamlessly switch between gunning down enemies and utilizing your signature goo abilities to smash your way through levels.
However, the precious yellow ooze remains a limited resource, so careful management is crucial, especially during challenging boss battles. Keep a close eye on your meter to avoid running dry!
Mask Around is available now on Google Play. While an iOS release hasn't been announced yet, Android users can jump in immediately. While I haven't played the original, Mask Around appears to be a significant upgrade, expanding upon the original gameplay while retaining its core charm. The improved graphics are a welcome addition.
The strategic element of balancing goo usage with weapon combat adds a new layer of depth. It's no longer just about maintaining your goo meter, but also about choosing the right moment to use it.
