"Mastering Quematrice: Capture Strategies in Monster Hunter Wilds"

by Logan Apr 28,2025

Are you ready to take on the fearsome Quematrice in *Monster Hunter Wilds* but worried about getting scorched and losing your precious meat? Don't fret, brave hunter! We're here to guide you through the process of defeating and even capturing this fiery beast. Let's delve into its weaknesses, effective strategies, attacks to watch out for, and the best ways to emerge victorious.

How to Beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Weaknesses: Water
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb

The Quematrice resembles a giant chicken-like creature, drawing inspiration from the Cockatrice. Thankfully, it breathes fire instead of petrifying its foes. As a mid-sized monster, it's vulnerable to most weapons, though its area-based attacks might make ranged weapons a safer choice for less experienced hunters.

When it comes to its attacks, be wary of the tail strikes and sweeps, which can cause significant damage. The tail slam, in particular, is the heaviest hitter when you're positioned behind the Quematrice. It raises its tail high before slamming it down, so sidestepping or blocking is your best defense. However, the real danger lies in its fire attacks, which not only deal immediate damage but can set you ablaze, causing ongoing health drain and igniting the ground.

These fire attacks are tricky to anticipate. The Quematrice might rear its head slightly and roar before flinging flames from its tail. It can also perform a full sweep, hitting everything around it with fire after roaring and lifting its head and tail. Another variation is a charging attack where it runs towards you, turning at the last moment to unleash a fiery blast. If you're using ranged weapons, start moving backward as soon as you see it charging to avoid the flames.

How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Quematrice requires the right tools: a Shock Trap, a Pitfall Trap, and at least two Tranq Bombs. While you only need one trap, having a backup is crucial, especially if the monster flees or another creature triggers it.

Once the Quematrice is weakened to the point of limping, or if you notice the skull icon repeatedly appearing on the mini-map, it's time to set your trap. For simplicity, wait until the monster has moved to a new area after limping away. Place your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and then throw two Tranq Bombs to secure your capture.
