The Star Wars: Starfighter cast is beginning to coalesce, with Mia Goth reportedly joining Ryan Gosling in the upcoming space epic.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed Goth, acclaimed for her roles as Maxine Minx and Pearl in the X horror franchise, will portray an antagonist in Shawn Levy's Star Wars project. The Deadpool & Wolverine director will helm the film, with production commencing this fall in England ahead of its May 28, 2027 premiere.

Protector and Pursuer

THR sources indicate Gosling stars as a guardian forced to defend his young nephew from ruthless foes, with Goth's character among those hunting them. Lucasfilm has declined to confirm these casting details.

A New Era in Star Wars

Starfighter occupies uncharted chronological territory - set five years after The Rise of Skywalker's events yet deliberately positioned as standalone. Levy emphasized during April 2025's Star Wars Celebration: "This isn't connected to existing trilogies. It's fresh storytelling exploring unexplored timelines."

The film emerges as the next theatrical Star Wars installment following 2026's The Mandalorian and Grogu. While sharing its name with early-2000s video games Star Wars: Starfighter and Jedi Starfighter, sources confirm no narrative connections exist to those PlayStation 2/Xbox era titles.

Galactic Context

The Rise of Skywalker concluded with Palpatine's definitive defeat, yet left the post-Exegol galaxy largely undefined. Daisy Ridley's confirmed return in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Rise of Skywalker sequel will depict Rey's efforts to restore the Jedi Order approximately 15 years later - positioning Starfighter's events chronologically between these narratives.
