MultiVersus's journey is a cautionary tale in game development, a story destined for industry case studies alongside the infamous Concord debacle. Despite its impending closure, the game's final act unfolds with the reveal of two highly anticipated characters: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This announcement, however, arrives amidst a wave of fan discontent, some escalating to threats against the development team. MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh responded with a heartfelt message, pleading with players to refrain from such behavior.
Huynh offered an apology to fans whose desired characters never made it into the game, expressing hope that they'll find enjoyment in the final Season 5 content. He clarified the complex factors influencing character selection, emphasizing his limited control over these decisions, contrary to some fans' perceptions.
Adding fuel to the fire, the game's shutdown left some players unable to spend their in-game tokens on the promised new characters—a perk included in the $100 premium edition. This unfulfilled promise may have contributed to the escalating threats.
