Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Charges Faster

by Aurora Oct 03,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller charges nearly twice as fast as its predecessor while maintaining excellent battery performance.

As reported by Nintendo Life, Nintendo has released the technical specifications for the upgraded $84.99 Switch 2 Pro Controller. Using the official Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or USB-C cable, the controller reaches full charge in just 3.5 hours - a significant improvement over the original model's six-hour charging time.

Remarkably, this faster charging doesn't compromise the controller's industry-leading 40-hour battery life. The Pro Controller 2 also introduces new features including a C button, two additional GL/GR buttons on the back panel, and a more compact, lightweight design compared to the original version.

For those not ready to upgrade immediately, Nintendo has confirmed backward compatibility with original Switch controllers.

Nintendo recently showcased the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct presentation. While U.S. pre-orders were initially scheduled for early April, the company delayed the launch to April 24 due to tariff considerations. During this period, Nintendo maintained the $449.99 console price point but increased costs for most accessories - including the $5 price hike for the Pro Controller (from $80 to $85).

For potential buyers, we've prepared a comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 vs original Switch comparison and tips for securing a console on launch day.
