Overture DLC Not Linked to Lies of P's Final Cutscene Reveal, Director Confirms

by Mila Apr 16,2025

Since the announcement of the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, fans have been buzzing with excitement and speculation about its potential content. At the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN gained some clarity on what fans can expect—or rather, what they shouldn't expect—from the DLC. Notably, the enigmatic final cutscene from the base game, which has sparked numerous theories, will not be explained in Overture. For those who have yet to experience the ending, it's a scene that teases future directions for the Lies of P universe with a surprising twist.

Director Jiwon Choi confirmed that this particular cutscene, which has been the subject of much fan speculation, is not connected to the upcoming DLC. Choi remained tight-lipped on further details, simply urging fans to "stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

Neowiz has already revealed plans for a full sequel to Lies of P, suggesting that the mysterious cutscene might be setting the stage for Lies of P 2. However, details about the sequel remain under wraps, and Choi offered no hints during our discussion.

Choi emphasized Neowiz's commitment to quality, stating, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

The scene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is the intriguing "Dorothy scene." As we detailed in a previous article, the final cutscene shows Paracelcus on a phone call, mentioning he will "find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy." The scene then reveals the iconic striped sock legs and ruby slippers of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, hinting that future Lies of P narratives might explore connections with other public domain fairy tales. While this scene won't be addressed in Overture, it leaves fans eager to see how it unfolds in the larger Lies of P universe.

While the Dorothy scene remains a mystery for now, Choi offered some insights into what fans can anticipate in the Overture DLC. He encouraged players to revisit the base game, noting that it contains numerous hints about the upcoming content: "When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience," Choi explained. "A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that are going to be included in expansion."

Choi also acknowledged the community's engagement, mentioning that he regularly reads fan theories online and that "some of them are quite close."

Additional details about the Overture DLC include an estimated playtime of 15-20 hours for experienced players. The DLC will be accessible after reaching a "certain" chapter in the game and will remain available until the end. As a prequel, it will transport the main character back in time to Krat just before its fall, introducing new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons. While Choi was careful not to spoil too much, these elements promise an exciting expansion to the Lies of P world.
