Phasmophobia: Mastering the Parabolic Mic

by Jacob Mar 14,2025

In Phasmophobia, the Parabolic Microphone is a game-changer for ghost hunting. This optional piece of equipment isn't given to you at the start; you'll need to unlock it. Here's how to get your hands on it and master its use.

The Parabolic Microphone is unlocked through progression. Reach Level 7 to purchase the first tier in the in-game shop. Upgrades to tiers two and three require reaching Levels 31 ($3,000 upgrade cost) and 72 ($5,000 upgrade cost), respectively. You can equip up to two microphones, regardless of team size. Remember, prestiging resets your level, requiring you to unlock each tier again.

To use the microphone, equip it from the truck's equipment wall before each investigation. (Note: Challenge Mode may have different loadouts.) Use the appropriate button to activate it. The tier 3 version includes a helpful directional radar.

On larger maps, the Parabolic Microphone is invaluable for pinpointing ghost locations by sound. Listen for clues like thrown objects, moving doors, or the ghost's voice. It can also help complete optional objectives requiring you to record the ghost's voice. Certain ghosts, such as the Deogen or Banshee, have unique sounds only detectable with this tool, aiding in identification.

Phasmophobia is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Check The Escapist for more guides and news, including all achievements and trophies.
