In *Avowed*, one of the earliest significant decisions you'll face is whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas. This choice leads to varied outcomes, ranging from bad to worse, with a few scenarios that might be considered somewhat positive. Here’s a comprehensive guide on what happens depending on your decision regarding the Splinter of Eothas.
When you decide not to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas, the conversation quickly escalates, revealing that his threats were not empty. Sargamis will engage you in combat, presenting himself as an optional boss with a distinct name and a hefty health bar, making him one of the tougher early-game encounters.
During the battle, Sargamis summons two spirit creatures that typically focus their attacks on Kai rather than you. His combat style includes swift thrusting attacks with his sword, allowing him to cover significant distances rapidly. A key strategy is to use ice spells to freeze him, slowing down his movements and making the fight more manageable.
Upon defeating Sargamis, you'll acquire the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon that not only restores 3% of your health upon defeating an enemy but also adds a 10% bonus fire damage to your attacks.
Once you agree to give the Splinter to Sargamis, you're presented with further choices. You can change your mind, prompting Sargamis to attack you. Alternatively, you can persuade him to enter the statue himself, which results in his death and rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace.
Another option is to offer yourself to the statue. If you stand in the designated circle and wait for Sargamis to activate the machine, you'll die but earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading the game will bring you back to the point before entering the circle. However, if you choose to leave the circle when instructed to stand still, Sargamis will become enraged and attack you.
The optimal approach to resolve the situation with the Splinter of Eothas is to convince Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. This requires an Intellect stat of at least 4. If you need to adjust your stats, refer to our *Avowed* respec guide. Place the Splinter in the statue before discussing it with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then talk to him after it fails. Persuade him that his plan will not succeed, leading him to abandon his idea.
To initiate this path, selecting the Court Augur or Arcane Scholar background options is beneficial, although different backgrounds might offer similar choices. Continue guiding Sargamis towards the realization that Eothas is gone, but avoid the Intellect option regarding live soul transfer.
After Sargamis leaves, you can decide whether to let the voice use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters and speak with him to complete this segment of the Dawntreader quest, earning more experience than you would through combat or handing over the Splinter.
That covers the outcomes of giving or withholding the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in *Avowed*. If you're new to the game, check out our *Avowed* beginner's guide for more tips and insights. *Avowed* is now available on PC and Xbox.
