"Power Rangers Disney+ Series to Reimagine Franchise for New Fans"

Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: Power Rangers is reportedly gearing up for a new live-action series on Disney+. According to The Wrap, the showrunners behind the successful Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are in negotiations to write, showrun, and produce this eagerly anticipated series in collaboration with Disney+ and 20th Century TV.

Hasbro, the current owner of Power Rangers, aims to breathe new life into the franchise while retaining the loyalty of its existing fanbase. This strategic move is part of Hasbro's broader vision to revitalize the brand for a new generation of viewers.

The original '90s TV show, The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, captured the hearts of a generation with its teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs, which could combine into an even more formidable machine. This nostalgia-inducing series remains a beloved classic.

In 2018, Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers franchise from Saban Properties in a significant $522 million deal. At the time, Hasbro's chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, expressed enthusiasm about the brand's potential across various platforms, including toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, and entertainment, with an eye on global expansion.

This acquisition followed the unsuccessful 2017 movie reboot, which attempted to give Power Rangers a darker, grittier edge but failed to resonate with audiences, leading to scrapped sequel plans and Saban's subsequent sale to Hasbro.

In addition to the Power Rangers series, Hasbro is also venturing into other high-profile projects. These include a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms in development at Netflix, an animated Magic: The Gathering series also at Netflix, and plans for a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe. These initiatives showcase Hasbro's commitment to expanding its entertainment footprint across various genres and platforms.
