Rocksteady begins search for Game Director for its next Batman game

by Michael Mar 01,2025

Rocksteady Studios is searching for a Game Director for its next major project, as evidenced by a job posting on February 17th by Warner Bros. Discovery.

The posting seeks a candidate skilled in crafting "high-quality game design," encompassing core mechanics, progression systems, combat, and mission structure. Experience across diverse genres, including third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee combat, is highly desired. This has fueled speculation of a return to the Batman franchise, the series that launched Rocksteady to prominence. The Arkham series closely matches these requirements, unlike the more gun-focused Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

As the hiring process is in its early stages, the game is likely still in the conceptual phase. Industry expert Jason Schreier suggests that, should a new single-player Batman title materialize, it's several years away.

Rocksteady's latest release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, launched February 2nd, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). It received mixed critical reception (Metacritic score: 63/100) and a significantly lower player rating (4.2/10).

Previous reports hinted at a potential Rocksteady Batman project, possibly inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series.
