A wave of new details surrounding a potential remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag has surfaced online. Black Flag, a beloved entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise, is celebrated for its captivating pirate theme, stunning Caribbean open world, and blend of classic AC stealth and action. Nearly twelve years after its initial release, the prospect of a modern-hardware enhanced version is understandably exciting for many fans.
Rumors of a Black Flag remake have persisted for some time, with previous reports suggesting a 2024 release, later pushed back following the delay of Assassin's Creed Mirage. While Ubisoft remains officially silent, new information about the project has leaked.
A report by MP1st, citing an unnamed developer's website, details the remake's purported use of the Anvil Engine and inclusion of new combat features and enhanced wildlife ecosystems. Specific details remain scarce, but the leak suggests a more ambitious undertaking than some anticipated.
This isn't the only significant leak from MP1st's discovery. The same source also revealed details about a rumored Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake, highlighting enhanced combat with a Soulslike-inspired blocking system and improvements to stamina, stealth, and archery. Hopes for an Oblivion remake announcement at the January 23rd Xbox Developer Direct ultimately proved unfounded.
The release timelines for both the Oblivion and Black Flag remakes remain uncertain. Ubisoft's current focus is on Assassin's Creed Mirage, recently delayed from February to March 2025, along with its planned post-launch expansions. Speculation suggests a potential Black Flag remake launch in 2026, once Mirage is complete. However, this is purely conjecture based on leaks and rumors; fans should treat any claims about a Black Flag remake with caution until official confirmation from Ubisoft.
