SEGA Stars Join Sonic Rumble for Historic Crossover Event!

Sonic Rumble hasn’t launched globally yet, but it’s already rolling out a crossover packed with SEGA’s most iconic characters. SEGA is calling it Crossover Event #0: SEGA Stars. It’s live now through May 7th—just before the worldwide release on May 8th.

Sonic Rumble is currently in soft launch and available in over 40 countries. It first debuted in Summer 2024 across regions like the Philippines, Scandinavian nations, and Colombia. During its second soft launch phase, it expanded to Canada, Turkey, Malaysia, South Africa, and additional territories.

What’s in Store?

If you’re in a region where the game soft-launched last year, you can jump into the Sonic Rumble SEGA Stars crossover. First up, the Altered Beast team is back—and the Werewolf transformation is free for the taking.

Fond of nostalgic beast forms? You can now unlock the Werebear and Weredragon, though availability depends on your payment method. The Weredragon is exclusive to the Premium Pass, while the Werebear can be purchased with regular rings.

Adding some Fantasy Zone charm, Opa-Opa and Upa-Upa have joined the roster. Opa-Opa is locked behind the Premium Pass. Upa-Upa is available through fragments, each costing 700 standard rings.

AiAi and MeeMee from Super Monkey Ball have also arrived in the Sonic Rumble SEGA Stars crossover. To unlock AiAi, you’ll need 729 Red Star Rings. Take a look at the crossover in action below.

Collect SEGA logos during matches to earn bonus rewards. Yes, it’s odd that the event is live before the global launch—but SEGA has confirmed most of these pre-release rewards will return later.

It’s thrilling to see Sonic Rumble’s first crossover dive deep into SEGA’s rich history and current lineup. Monkeys, sentient arcade ships, and muscular werethings all crashing into Sonic and friends make this game look truly promising.
