Ah, Christmas, or the holiday period in general. A time for joy, celebration and to see crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear their lamentations. Or erm, at least with that last part that's what you're getting with Shadow of the Depth.
A top-down, roguelike dungeon crawler set in a dark fantasy world, if I had to describe Shadow of the Depth I'd say it's a throwback to old-school Diablo, with a healthy dash of Binding of Isaac and other bullet hells thrown in. Of course, that's still selling it short, but it's out now on iOS and Android for you to try for yourself.
You'll use five distinct characters with differing abilities to string together devastating combos as you maraud your way through a procedurally generated dungeon. While 140+ passives, a trinket system and more all help to ensure that no two builds, and no two runs, are ever the same.
What's also impressive about Shadow of the Depth is that this isn't just some loosely connected series of levels full of brutal violence, no, there's an actual overarching story here. As you make your way through three separate chapters you'll uncover the story of the blacksmith's son, Arthur, as he tries to avenge his fallen family by slaying everything in the abyss.
And you're not going short on graphics either, as the simplistic top-down perspective belies hand-drawn visuals and dynamic effects that are sure to enhance your chop-till-you-drop action.
If Shadow of the Depth gives you an itch that begs to be scratched for fast-paced roguelike action, why not dig into some of our lists to find more? We've ranked the top 25 best roguelikes for iOS and Android, featuring top games from the past and present to give you action on repeat.
