Skyblivion Fan Remake Targets 2024 Release

by Thomas Feb 12,2026

Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-driven recreation of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within the engine of Skyrim, is progressing toward a planned release in 2025.

In a recent development stream, the modding team reconfirmed their launch timeline while showcasing completed work. Developed by a dedicated group of volunteers, Skyblivion represents a massive, AAA-scale project that has consumed years of effort.

2025 has remained the target release window, and the latest stream reaffirmed that goal, with the team stating a 2025 launch at the absolute latest. "With your continued support," they added, "we hope to complete the final steps of realizing our dream—potentially even ahead of our own estimates."

Simply calling Skyblivion a faithful remake understates the scope of the project. The developers are also enhancing various aspects of the original game. This includes making unique items truly distinctive and revamping existing bosses—such as Mannimarco—to better match their legendary status. The team's stream featured the infamous "A Brush with Death" quest, and the visually stunning painted world it creates.

This project is remarkable on its own, but there's an added layer of intrigue: the long-rumored official Oblivion remake.

Alleged details about an official Oblivion remake emerged earlier this year, suggesting potential updates to combat and other systems. Microsoft declined to comment on these reports when contacted by IGN. Furthermore, references to an Oblivion remaster appeared in documents accidentally released during the Activision Blizzard-FTC trial in 2023. While some mentioned projects, like an Indiana Jones game, have since launched, others—including the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters—remain officially unconfirmed.

If Microsoft and Bethesda do pursue an official Oblivion re-release, a comprehensive fan mod like Skyblivion could find itself in a complicated position. Bethesda's games have a celebrated history of robust modding communities, from classic titles to recent releases like Starfield. Fans will hope this project avoids any last-minute hurdles, similar to those encountered by mods like Fallout London.
