Switch 2 Leak Sparks Nintendo Response

Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Nintendo has issued an unusual statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the images circulating online are not official, a relatively uncommon response to product leaks. This clarification is unsurprising, given Nintendo's absence from CES 2025. Therefore, any Switch 2 imagery originating from the show cannot be considered legitimate promotional material.

Leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki added fuel to the fire by displaying a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025. Pictures of this model quickly spread across social media.

Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply stated that the Genki replica was "not official." However, the company didn't comment on the replica's accuracy.

Could Genki's Replica Be Accurate?

Despite Nintendo's disclaimer, Genki's model aligns with numerous previous leaks and rumors. The most noticeable differences from the original Switch are its slightly larger size and an additional button. This button, located below the right Joy-Con's home button and labeled "C," resembles the square capture button on the left Joy-Con. Its function remains unknown.

Genki CEO Eddie Tsai offered additional insights, claiming the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachments instead of sliding rails and could potentially function as a mouse, corroborating information from other sources.

Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing

Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
