SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Emio: The Smiling Man’, ‘Gundam Breaker 4’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales

by Hannah Apr 01,2025

Hello, dear readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today, we're diving into a fresh batch of new releases, which is the main focus of our Thursday column. We've also got a robust list of new sales to explore. While we can't have Nintendo Directs every day, there's still plenty to keep us excited. Let's jump into the games!

Select New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

After a long hiatus, the Famicom Detective Club series is back with a new case that stays true to the original games. This latest installment offers a fresh mystery to solve, with a presentation style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Are you ready to crack the latest serial murder case? I'll be reviewing it soon, so stay tuned.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail has penned an in-depth review of this game, so head over there for a complete rundown. In short, you'll be building and battling Gunplas. While the Switch version may not match the performance of other platforms, it's still a solid choice if it's your only option. Don't miss Mikhail's detailed review!

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its successful streak with remakes, and Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn transforms an 8-bit classic into something new and exciting. If you're craving an action-platformer with a nostalgic feel, this game will not disappoint. Look out for my review early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A follow-up to Valfaris, this game shifts gears to a 2.5D side-scrolling shoot 'em up. While the genre change might surprise some, it's worth embracing for a fun experience. My review is on the way, so keep an eye out!

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

This game is a bit of a mystery, but it certainly features beautiful images of food. The idea is to interact with the food, take pictures, and discover secrets. I might get Mikhail to take a closer look at this intriguing title.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

If monster trucks are your thing, Monster Jam Showdown offers a variety of modes, both local and online multiplayer. While it's received mixed reviews on other platforms, it might still be a great fit for fans of the genre.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

This could be a remake of the original WitchSpring, though I'm not entirely sure. Historically a mobile game akin to Atelier, its higher price point on Switch is a bit of a concern. Still, it looks like the best-looking WitchSpring game yet.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

Explore the depths of the ocean in this fantastical horror game. As you investigate your missing crew, you'll navigate a dangerous underwater world filled with challenges and combat. Highly regarded by fans of exploratory action games, it should find a strong audience on the Switch.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

Voltaire, a rebellious vampire, adopts a vegan lifestyle to defy his father. This leads to a mix of farming and action as he fends off his father's attempts to sabotage him. If you're not tired of farming games, this might be a fun pick.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A classic marble roller game with seventy stages and eighty marbles to collect. It's all about racing through the courses as fast as you can without falling off, with secret collectibles and special challenges to keep things exciting.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

A firefighting game aimed at younger audiences, Leo: The Firefighter Cat offers twenty missions with key firefighting elements. It's a great option for kids interested in the theme.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

A dark and grotesque action game featuring a hoverboarding cat, Gori: Cuddly Carnage has received positive feedback overall. However, the Switch version suffers from technical issues that may affect your experience. Proceed with caution if framerate stability is important to you.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

An obscure 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot hero. It's a charming addition to the Arcade Archives series, especially if you enjoy post-Xevious pre-Tiger Heli shooters.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early expansion pack for Xanadu, this game offers a new underworld to explore. It's notably more challenging and features the debut work of the legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro. A must-have for gaming history enthusiasts.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements, The Backrooms: Survival is best enjoyed with up to ten players online. Playing solo might appeal to those who enjoy its repetitive nature.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

A clever puzzle game where you play as a sentient tin can solving worm-related puzzles. With one hundred hand-crafted puzzles and a fresh approach, it's a standout for puzzle game fans.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

A modern take on NES-style games, Ninja I & II offers competitive microgames in the vein of Wario Ware. Whether playing locally or against the CPU, it's a unique experience on the classic NES platform.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

A simple yet addictive game where you aim to create rows or columns of dice that add up to ten or multiples of ten. Available in two modes, it's a fun and engaging puzzle experience.

That's all for today, friends. We'll be back tomorrow to wrap up the week with more new releases, sales, and any major news. Maybe even some reviews? We'll see. There's a big typhoon coming through this week, so there's a chance I might not make it to the office for tomorrow's article. We'll deal with that if it happens. I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday, and as always, thanks for reading!
