Tides of Annihilation, drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend, casts players as Gwendolyn, a young woman battling alongside spectral knights to rescue her family and mend a fractured world.
The game unfolds in a ravaged, modern-day London, overrun by a mysterious otherworldly invasion. Gwendolyn and her team must confront relentless enemy hordes swarming the city streets. The primary antagonists are colossal, roaming knights, demanding strategic combat that involves climbing onto them for intense close-quarters battles.
While visually impressive, the game's narrative currently lacks a compelling hook. Recent soulslike titles have successfully reimagined classic stories – "Journey to the West" offered Western audiences a fresh perspective, and "Lies of P" provided a unique twist on Pinocchio. However, the King Arthur narrative feels overused, preventing Tides of Annihilation from achieving the same level of originality despite its stunning visuals.
