TownsFolk Unveils Major Update with New Mechanics, Structures, and Compendium

by Aurora May 14,2025

Short Circuit Studio has just released an exciting new update for their recently launched settlement builder, TownsFolk. Titled "Shadows and Fortune," this update introduces a darker tone to the charming pixel-art adventure, bringing with it a range of new mechanics and content to enhance the gameplay experience.

Even though TownsFolk is fresh on the scene, the developers are not holding back on adding depth to the game. The "Shadows and Fortune" update introduces new buildings and challenges that will shake up your strategy. You'll now need to watch out for roaming Barbarians that add a thrilling element of tension to your campaign missions and Skirmish mode. Additionally, eight new structures are being added, including the Altar, Town Square, Blacksmith, Aqueduct, Bank, Granary, Factory, and Terraformer.

The update also brings life to the water tiles with the introduction of the rare Whale, adding a unique element to explore. Special Locations such as ancient Obelisks and new Shipwrecks will further enhance the unpredictability of your adventures.

To help you keep track of all these new additions, a handy Compendium has been included, acting as an in-game encyclopedia. The Exploration System has been revamped, and you can now adjust Campaign Difficulties between Frontier and Survival modes for a tailored challenge.
