The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Rune Slayer

by Madison Mar 22,2025

After two failed launches and months of anticipation, Rune Slayer has arrived, and it's fantastic! While incredibly fun, the game has a steep learning curve, especially for MMORPG newcomers. Fear not, this guide will help you conquer your Rune Slayer journey.

Here are some crucial tips we wish we'd known earlier:

Don't Randomly Attack Other Players

Initially, Rune Slayer's full-loot PvP worried us, but it's less brutal than expected. Death doesn't mean losing items; you simply respawn. However, attacking players earns you a bounty. The more kills, the larger your bounty, and the more loot you drop upon your own demise. Essentially, full-loot PvP is self-inflicted. Unless you're strategically ganking with friends, avoid initiating player-on-player combat.

Craft Bags Immediately

Inventory and bank space are severely limited. Fortunately, you can craft bags! Two can be equipped simultaneously, starting with the Cotton Bag. Find Cotton north of Wayshire and Flax south (beware of tougher mobs in the south). Each Cotton Bag adds 10 slots—craft them ASAP!

Your Pets Don't Actually Die

Contrary to popular belief, your pets don't perish permanently. When their health reaches zero, they enter a 5-minute cooldown. Check this cooldown by pressing T. After five minutes, simply press T again to resummon them. Bonus tip: Quickly heal your pet by storing and retrieving it at the stable master—you have one free slot.

Accept Every Quest

Rune Slayer boasts a plethora of quests, mostly unremarkable "kill X" tasks. To streamline things, accept every quest you encounter, including those on the job board. Often, multiple quests can be completed simultaneously.

Craft Everything at Least Once

Craft necessary items first, but don't hesitate to experiment with crafting surplus materials. Crafting unlocks new, potentially stronger, crafting options. We unexpectedly unlocked superior Iron Armor after smelting our first Iron Ore.

Join a Guild

While Rune Slayer is solo-friendly, tougher enemies often require group effort. Guilds are the easiest way to find groups, especially for challenging bosses. Use the in-game chat or the official Rune Slayer Discord to find a guild.
