During my visit to Brazil for Gamescom Latam, I was on the hunt for a mobile game developed in the country. My search led me to a vibrant yellow booth where I discovered UniqKiller, an upcoming top-down shooter from the Sao Paulo-based studio, HypeJoe Games. The game was officially unveiled at the event, and the booth was a magnet for attendees, with a constant stream of people trying out the demo. The sight of HypeJoe's yellow tote bags throughout the expo was a testament to the popularity of UniqKiller.
HypeJoe aims to make a mark in the crowded shooter market with UniqKiller. The game adopts an isometric, top-down camera angle, a departure from the typical first-person perspective, though this may not be the main draw for most players. Instead, the emphasis on customization is what's likely to catch the eye of many. In 2024, HypeJoe believes players crave individuality, and UniqKiller offers extensive options to create and personalize your character, or 'Uniq.' As you play more matches, you unlock further customization, not just for appearance but also for skills and combat style, allowing you to tailor your gameplay experience.
As a multiplayer game, UniqKiller will feature the usual elements such as joining Clans, participating in Clan Wars, special events, and various missions. For those who might not be the best at shooters, like myself, HypeJoe is committed to implementing fair matchmaking, ensuring players are matched against others of similar skill levels.
UniqKiller is slated for release on both mobile and PC, with a closed beta scheduled for November 2024. Keep an eye on Pocket Gamer for updates on the full release and stay tuned for a possible upcoming interview with HypeJoe to delve deeper into their vision for the game.
