World of Warcraft has announced a delay in the launch of the second Plunderstorm event to address some unforeseen challenges. Although the team aims to have Plunderstorm up and running before the end of January 14, fans will need to wait a bit longer to dive back into this exciting battle royale mode.
Plunderstorm, a pirate-themed battle royale introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, was set to return on January 14, 2025, with both original and new rewards for players to claim. However, the event's rollout has hit a snag. Initially planned for a six-hour maintenance window, it was extended to eight hours, with servers expected to be back online by 3 PM PST. Yet, according to a forum update from WoW community manager Kaivax, "unexpected issues" have further postponed the launch. While the team is working to resolve these issues before the day ends, no specific new launch time has been announced.
In the meantime, World of Warcraft has successfully restored its regular servers, allowing players to continue their adventures. Those eagerly awaiting Plunderstorm can log in to complete their Siren Isle weeklies, participate in the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or explore other activities in The War Within.
The second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces new features like the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible while logged into a character. These additions might be the source of the unexpected issues, and the team is working diligently to resolve them so players can resume their plundering adventures soon.
Despite the delay, the new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops are still available. By watching four hours of any World of Warcraft stream on Twitch before February 4 at 10 AM PST, players can earn the Coward’s Azure Target back transmog. Notably, the streamer does not need to be playing Plunderstorm for viewers to progress toward this reward, allowing fans to start collecting items while they wait for the game mode to go live.
