Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In this latest reveal, the studio took a moment to reminisce about one of their most celebrated projects: the wartime survival game This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim over a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing atmosphere, The Alters introduces a more vibrant and often humorous narrative, focusing on the trials of alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep thematic link between the two games.
Although the settings and tones of the games differ significantly, both are anchored in the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the grim realities of war within a besieged city, managing scarce resources and facing daily challenges to keep their group alive. On the other hand, The Alters frames survival as a race against time, with players needing to continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the destructive path of an unforgiving sun that turns everything to dust.
Both titles challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into hostile territories in search of vital resources. The primary distinction between the games lies in their protagonists: This War of Mine involves guiding a group of random civilians, whereas The Alters features a unique team made up of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, ensuring a wide audience can experience this innovative survival adventure.
