In recent years, anticipation for a The Last of Us sequel has been palpable online. Despite mixed reactions to the second game, many hoped Naughty Dog would address criticisms in a potential Part III or explore the universe through a spin-off. However, Neil Druckmann recently made a surprising announcement.
In a joint interview with screenwriter Craig Mazin, Druckmann discussed both the HBO adaptation and the games themselves. He revealed his struggles following the sequel's release during the COVID-19 pandemic. Feeling unwell and isolated, he found himself overwhelmed by online feedback, leading to self-doubt and questioning the game's quality.
When asked about a third installment, Druckmann sighed, acknowledging the expected nature of the question. However, he stated that fans shouldn't anticipate a new The Last of Us game, hinting that the story might be concluded.
