Apple has officially greenlit a third season of the hit sci-fi psychological thriller, Severance, created by Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson. This series has not only captivated audiences but also holds the title of the most popular show on Apple TV+, with its second season becoming the streamer's most-watched series to date. For a deeper dive into what made Season 2 so compelling, take a look at IGN's review of Severance Season 2.
Ben Stiller expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of. While I have no memory of this, I’m told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.” Adam Scott, who stars in and executive produces the show, shared similar sentiments, adding, “I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast and crew, Apple, and the whole Severance team. Oh hey also - not a huge deal - but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”

According to Apple's official description, Severance follows Mark Scout (played by Scott), who leads a team at Lumon Industries. The employees there have undergone a severance procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This bold experiment in 'work-life balance' is put to the test as Mark uncovers a mystery that challenges his understanding of his work and self. In Season 2, Mark and his team face the dire repercussions of tampering with the severance barrier, delving deeper into a path fraught with challenges. The season introduced new series regulars Sarah Bock and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.
While a release date for Season 3 remains under wraps, Ben Stiller appeared on the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, where he assured fans that the wait for Season 3 wouldn't mirror the three-year gap experienced between Seasons 1 and 2. Stiller noted, “No, the plan is not to [wait three years]. Definitely not. Hopefully, we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon. That will not be that!” He attributed the previous delay to a writers' and actors' strike and the extensive shooting and editing process for Season 2, which lasted 186 days.
