Creative director Jonathan Dumont has shed light on the anticipated playtime for Assassin's Creed Shadows, revealing that players can expect to spend around 30 to 40 hours to complete the core narrative. For those eager to delve into every nook and cranny of the game, exploring all the optional content could extend the experience by an additional 30 to 40 hours, culminating in a total playtime of approximately 80 hours. This information, shared during an insightful interview with journalist Genki, offers a clear expectation for players regarding the time commitment required.
Previously, Dumont had likened Shadows to earlier entries in the series such as Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. However, given the significant variation in length among these titles, such comparisons were of limited use. Recognizing the challenge in quantifying the breadth of open-world experiences, Dumont provided a more precise statement, highlighting that Shadows aligns closely with the scope of Origins. According to data from How Long To Beat, completing the main campaign of Origins takes roughly 30 hours, while a complete playthrough, including all additional content, can extend to around 80 hours.

For fans wary of excessively long gameplay sessions, Shadows seems to offer a more balanced experience. In contrast, Valhalla has faced criticism for its extensive 60-hour main story and a total playtime that can reach a daunting 150 hours when including all available content. If Dumont's estimates hold true, Shadows promises a more manageable yet still enriching experience for players.
Mark your calendars—Assassin's Creed Shadows is set to release on March 20th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
