Second Dinner, the California-based studio behind the popular game Marvel Snap, found itself in a challenging situation when ByteDance's subsidiary, Nuverse, which publishes the game, faced a ban that extended to Marvel Snap. As a result, on January 18, 2025, the game was removed from both iOS and Android platforms. This sudden unavailability left many players frustrated, particularly due to ongoing authorization issues, although the game remains accessible on Steam for PC users.
The developers at Second Dinner expressed their surprise and dismay at the incident, assuring fans that they are actively working to bring Marvel Snap back online. In a statement from a Platform X official, they emphasized their commitment to the game's future: “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.”
One of the most frustrating aspects for players was the lack of prior warning about the potential lockout. Many continued to invest in in-game purchases, unaware of the impending unavailability of the game on mobile platforms.
The ban affected not only Marvel Snap but also other ByteDance apps, although not all were impacted. For instance, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable, highlighting the selective nature of the lockout.
In other Marvel Snap news, the game recently introduced a new card, Moonstone, which is part of the Ongoing archetype. Moonstone, with her 4/6 stats, is a much-needed addition to the current meta. As an ongoing card, she can replicate the ongoing effects of 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane, making her a powerful asset. Given the abundance of low-cost Ongoing cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which primarily boost power, Moonstone's ability to gain these effects for free makes her a potentially game-changing card in the current meta.
