Chrono Trigger Celebrates 30 Years with Upcoming Projects and a Special Concert

Square Enix is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic JRPG, Chrono Trigger. The announcement promises various projects releasing throughout the year, fueling speculation among fans long awaiting a proper remaster or modern console release. While details remain scarce, the phrasing suggests these projects may extend beyond the game itself.

Despite its legendary status and enduring popularity, Chrono Trigger has yet to receive a full remake or a modern console release beyond the original PlayStation port in 1999. While available on PC and mobile platforms, a definitive modern version remains a sought-after goal. Square Enix's history of revisiting classic titles offers hope, but for now, the only confirmed anniversary event is a special concert showcasing its beloved soundtrack.

This YouTube livestream concert airs March 14th at 7:00 p.m. PT and continues into the early hours of the following morning.

For those unfamiliar, Chrono Trigger is a legendary time-traveling RPG developed by a dream team including Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest mastermind Yuji Horii, and Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama. Originally released in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, the game follows Crono and his companions as they journey through diverse eras, from prehistoric times to a dystopian future. Players recruit allies, alter history, and face one of gaming's most iconic final bosses.

This 30th anniversary marks a significant milestone. While a remake or console port remains unconfirmed, Square Enix's announcement leaves the possibility open.
